as riley: well-meaning but misguided, cheerful, aims for helpful but occasionally misses, can be irritatingly optimistic, sheltered, clearly competent enough for the job if a bit behind on training, bit of a slow learner, easily impressed, grateful for any help, wants people to be happy, enjoys gossip, definitely has more book smarts than common sense.

in reality: quick to argue, selfish, perpetually looking for a fight, ready to pack up and go at a moment's notice, doesn't make real connections to anything or anyone because they just end up getting left behind anyway, equal parts restless and reckless, likes to throw herself into trouble just to prove she can get out of it, learned to ignore any real emotions, paranoid (to what would be an unhealthy extent if the government wasn't actually after her), always lying, hard to trust, has a bad filter under the influence, lets people make their own assumptions or feeds them cues to build those assumptions from.

BACKSTORY

WIP. short story: ex-military gone AWOL with government secrets they badly want back. was "disappeared" and "interrogated" by that same government, "escaped", and has been on the run since. information she found out tied back to the seed family in hope county somehow and that information landed her in montana as the junior deputy to follow up a few months before game events. regular old version it's just right place, right time, but supernatural/horror version gives her ties to threads of fate and inevitability and playing agent of chaos in the space between existence.
